The French army watched the sparks of the almogávares’ weapons, commanded by Guillem Galceran de Cartellà, as they shouted: “Awake, iron! Awake, iron!” This is the first battle in which this famous war cry of the almogávares was documented (by R. Muntaner). For this reason, Guillem Galceran was later called Count Despertaferro.
